 Anfang der 1950er-Jahre gründete der junge Physiker Heinz Nixdorf das Labor für Impulstechnik. Erste Produkte waren Röhrenrechner als Einzelstücke: ein Elektronensortierer für Lochkarten, ein Elektronen-Divisionsgerät, mit dem er seinen ersten finanziell tragfähigen Auftrag bei RWE bekam, und ein erster Elektronensaldierer. Das verbesserte Modell ES24 ging 1954/55 in Serie und wurde vor allem bei Banken und im Mittelstand eingesetzt. 2020/21 baute Henry Westphal in Berlin den ES24 mit alten Röhren funktionsfähig nach. Im Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum, Paderborn kann dieses Gerät ausprobiert und zum Beispiel für Buchungen im simulierten Bankgeschäft benutzt werden.
